Hatha comes from Sanskrit  “ha”-the sun and “Tha” - the moon.This refers to the balance of oppositions - masculine/feminine , hot/cold, left/right and  active/passive. Hatha yoga is a pass forward toward creating balance and uniting opposites. In reality all yoga styles that teaches physical postures is Hatha. 

 

Hatha yoga focuses on physical and mental strength building exercises and postures. Generally a more relaxed and gentle pace, focusing on proper alignment and breathing through each stage of a variety of poses. Best for beginners because of its slower pace and focus on technique and breathing.  Regular practice can improve strength, flexibility, and balance; reduce stress; and provide many therapeutic benefits as well.
